The Kinki Sharyo Co., Ltd. was awarded the Doha Metro Phase 1 (excluding civil works) in February 2015 as a consortium of five Japanese and French companies, and manufactured 110 train sets 330 cars. (Including an option order in October 2019.)
The rolling stock is designed as a fully automated driverless DC train with an aluminum alloy car body and it has a 3-car configuration (2M1T). Its saloons are divided into three classes that takes into account Islamic customs. In addition, the exterior and interior design, which blends traditional Qatari elements with a futuristic image, has been highly rated and has won international design awards (iF DESIGN AWARD, Red Dot Design Award, German Design Awards).
