About Us (Kinki Sharyo)

For about 90 years, ever since our foundation in 1920, Kinki Sharyo has been involved in the manufacture of rolling stock. Providing excellent quality, safety and comfort to satisfy the diverse demands of our customers, our railcars continue to be widely praised, not only in Japan but overseas as well.

Products

Kinki Sharyo manufactures railcars for customers in Japan and abroad. We have exported more than 1,000 railcars to Egypt since 1962 to support that country's public transportation system. For Asia we have exported railcars to Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore, and most recently 252 commuter rail type EMUs to MTR Corporation serving Hong Kong and environs (former KCRC).

In the U.S., our light rail vehicles (LRV) have been running in 6 cities since 1985. The 70% low floor LRV we developed for the U.S. market began revenue service in 2000 for New Jersey Transit, followed by Santa Clara VTA and then Phoenix VMR. Our 70% low floor LRV for Seattle ST started revenue service in 2009. Our low floor LRV vehicles are setting the American standard for passenger friendly qualities and energy efficiency.
